Just a stargazer

I learned something interesting today at lab meeting. I work in a lab where we study brain activation using functional MRIs. A student in the lab presented some old research from another lab where brain activation was studied by showing participants a variety of pictures. The pictures ranged from boring to scary to erotic. The erotic stimuli always generated the highest signal across all brain regions of interest. The student also said that in order for females to show the same degree of brain activation and arousal as males for erotic pictures, the picture had to be of a naked man holding a baby. How funny is that?! I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a naked man holding a baby so I don’t know.
