I’ve never been a fan of fru-fru musicals. You know, the happy, light, I’m-in-love-with-a-beautiful-girl musicals. I saw “Singin’ in the Rain” last night, and though it was a lovely, fun production, I did not care for the show. It did have it’s funny and moving moments, but it does not rank highly on my list of favorite musicals. Seeing the show was not a waste of time, and I did enjoy having a decent seat (one that’s not in the back like I usually am).
I’d like to see them do “Ragtime” at the Muny. That’s one of my favorites.
I’d love to see them do Ragtime at the muny, but i have a feeling it would be cost-prohibitive. I think that was part of the reason why it shut down on B-way: too expensive.

The movie’s awesome though.
And to Tanya: FREE SEATS! It’s the only way to watch the Muny.

Lisa don’t be too harsh on fru-fru musicals. You have to take into context the time that they were written. Some of those musicals broke the mold in their time period, just like some of your favorites today (aka RENT). Just sit and enjoy them don’t look to them for social commentary just for entertainment. Do be dissin’ Gershwin and Porter that’s some good stuff.
