My blog is not very popular. Perhaps that is because it is MY blog and I am not popular. I don’t know. What I know is that I get comments from the same devoted readers (I love you guys!) time after time and I rarely get comments from people outside this circle…
However I made one little posting back in March about this Better Than Ezra song I really like called “A Lifetime,” and interestingly enough, I STILL get comments from strangers from all over about that song. Unfortunately, no one has been able to answer my question with any amount of certainty. I have only heard that song a few times, but it reminds me of my life when I was 21 and happier. When three and a half minutes felt like a lifetime.
I am waiting for the guy who wrote the lyrics to “A Lifetime” to hop on the Internet and look up my blog and tell us all what REM song he was talking about. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how many strangers continue to post comments to this entry.
Good luck with that.

Here’s the thing with comments…the more you get around (on to other folks’ blogs), the more likely that yours will get more notice. Link to anyone and everyone you like to read. Discover more blogs and expand your blogging network. That tends to help.
You might enjoy micheleagnew.com. Every week she does a blog meet’n'greet; it’s a three-day weekend thing where you post a comment to that entry she has, visit the blogger who commented before you, and leave a comment for THAT person. the person who responds to michele’s entry next comes to visit you, posts a comment, and so on and so forth. Michele also has a fantastic list of blogs to explore.
I love comments myself, but I have to keep reminding myself that I blog for a couple of reasons:
1-I like having an audience
2-it’s fun and i like ot update people on what’s going on in my life.
Comments are a nice side effect, but really, I don’t have the time or desire to get myself all over the ‘net to establish a popular/well-known presence. also, the more ‘popular’ blogs (like micheleagnew.com and dooce.com update pretty regularly. michele updates every day; dooce does it at least once a week and often every day or every other day).
you could also email Better than Ezra or the songwriter to ask about that song.
21 was okay, but 26 is so much more fun!

Tagging on what Tanya said, I recommend that you just go to friends’ blogs and check out their friends pages. I do that on LJ every once in a while. It’s found me some really great livejournal people.

isn’t 3 1/2 minutes pretty short for a song? i always think that when i hear “lifetime”…

based on the content of both songs, my money is on “everybody hurts” as the REM song in question. doesn’t michael stipe stand on the hood of the car in the video like better than ezra sings about doing in “lifetime”?

it would be cool to have them visit, though.
