We sit here in our storm and drink a toast…

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 1:45 pm

Indigo Girls concert was excellent! If I never get to see them again, at least I saw a great show once.

I should be a rock star. Why don’t I play out anymore? Maybe getting the gig is a hassle. Maybe part of me hates being so vulnerable in front of people. Maybe I need a band. Or at least another guitarist/vocalist/songwriter. We could be like the indigo girls.

Why did I stop writing music? I think I need some inspiriation. Maybe when I go visit the grand canyon, the house of stone and light.

BTW: March here is going out like a lamb (definitely not a baked lamb, though). I told you it came in like a lion. Roar!

Soak up the sun

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 5:40 pm

In the Sheryl Crow song, “Soak up the Sun,” what does she really mean when she says, “I’ve got my 45 on so I can rock on”?

Think about it. She could be talking about her 45 old school vinyl record or her SPF 45 sunblock. What’s your opinion? What’s the true meaning of the lyric? Inquiring minds want to know.

I wish I could soak up the sun in st. louis. It’s been cloudy and cold all week.

Three and a half minutes

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 9:55 pm

Most of you who know me (and rent) probably think I’m referring to that line in “Rent”:

“How long til next year?”
“Three and a half minutes!”

But I’m not referring to Rent. I’m talking about a new song I heard on the radio by Better Than Ezra. The song is called “A Lifetime.” It has this catchy lyric about an REM song: “three and a half minutes felt like a lifetime.”

Does anyone have any idea which REM song he’s talking about? I’d really like to know if anyone finds out!

Life Cycle

Filed under: Poetry — stargazer @ 1:28 pm

a poem I wrote on 5/3/04…

Life Cycle of an Egg

It will happen again in the middle of May
Much like it did in mid-April

The sweet release of a single pearl–
Half a life, floating in hope
That a union will somehow complete her

She has been waiting for 25 years

She reaches her half-life
Still incomplete, drowning in dark red despair
In a womb that will again bear no fruit

A uterus sheds
The most violent tears.

Don’t Get Mad…

Get Glad.

I ran out of Glad saran wrap this week. Now I’m using generic schnucks brand. Glad is significantly better. Saran wrap is one of those things, like disposable razors, where buying name brand pays off. It just works way better, saving you both frustration and saran wrap. Do you know of anything that works better than Glad?

Also, in an update, it seems that my corner gas station did not change their prices to, for example, $1.97 a gallon (instead of $1.979 a gallon). Someone must have Bogarted the 9/10 sign. On the other side of the sign, it still says 1.97 9/10. What a rip. Everyone in St. Louis should consider going to the BP on Hampton just south of 40 to let them know we appreciate even gasoline prices and none of the 9/10 of a cent crap.

Martha Stewart’s Poncho

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 10:41 am

Martha Stewart left “federal pound me in the ass” prison today on a private plane. She will have to wear an ankle bracelet that monitors her movements because she is not allowed to leave her ridiculously huge house without her parole officer’s permission except to go to the store, church, and a limited number of work hours or something like that. I’m not too worried about Martha Stewart trying to break her parole; it seems silly that she has to even be on parole. I do not feel at all threatened by her prison release. I’m not fearing that she’s going to lie to me or try to sell me bad stock. But I did like her poncho.

As she was boarding the private jet, she had chosen to wear a crocheted poncho, possibily homemade (despite temperatures being below freezing, she was not wearing a coat). The poncho looked a lot like the one I’ll be sporting in a week or two. I’m working on crocheting it now. :)
