Pink Flamingos

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 11:11 am

This morning as I was walking to my office, I saw some plastic pink birds that attracted my attention on the lawn just east of the library on campus. There was a gaggle gossiping on the grounds, and a few frolicking through the trees. Some were perched above doorways and lampposts. I had a nice chuckle at the harmless practical joke.

To Riding Your Bike Midday [in a] Three Piece Suit

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 10:22 am

As I was walking to work today in my new Air Copius Nikes, I was thinking about how I’d rather be riding a bike to work. Now, if only I had a bike.

Anybody have a bike they don’t want/need/use?

“I’d like to purchase a gallon of gasoline.”

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 2:18 pm

“That will be $1.81 and nine tenths of a cent.”

“Here’s $1.82. And I’d like my tenth of a cent back, please.”

Here’s to the end of being charged by the tenth of a cent for gasoline! I noticed the BP station on Hampton went to this system so I’ve been going there to fill up, and just yesterday, the corner gas station went from $1.81 and 9/10 to $1.81. This morning it was $1.74. I respect them for not trying to charge me an extra 9/10 of a cent. This kind of money does not exist anymore. It’s ridiculous.

Gravity and other natural forces

Is it really true that toilets flush counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere?

I have wondered if this is true.

I remember it like today, but the sun has made it fade,
Still I know you know where England is.”

What’s in YOUR pants?

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 4:38 pm

I know what’s in mine. I found out today, and it really threw me for a loop.

I reached into my pants pocket this afternoon, and pulled out what I thought to be a quarter. Upon closer investigation, I discovered it was actually a 1 Franc piece from Republique Francaise (France). What is such a coin doing in my pocket? I’m pretty sure that my jeans have not been to France since I last wore them, and I haven’t been there in five and a half years. So where did the money come from?

The only thing I can think of is that I may have seen the Franc sitting out on my desk at my parents house on Sunday and slipped it into my pocket without thinking about what I was doing.

Or maybe someone was just trying to swindle me out of 25 cents.

good news, bad news

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 5:23 pm

The good news is that my brother’s coming in town this weekend!

The bad news is my grandmother passed away. (Which is almost good news. She was ready. We were all prepared for it to happen soon.)

The good news is that I therefore get a day off Friday.

The bad news is that it’s going to be busy and even stressful planning music for a funeral.
