Book-Ends

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 3:02 pm

A couple of blog entries down from this is my 2004 year in review. While answering one of the questions I realized that I did not enjoy reading any of the books I read last year, which wasn’t really that many, maybe about 10. But they all pretty much sucked, at least enough for me not to enjoy reading them. How sad is that?

I decided not enjoying books is a problem, so I am on a rampant quest to enjoy books in 2005. In fact, right now I am already enjoying a book in 2005. It’s called “Welcome, Silence” about a woman and her struggle with schizophrenia. I’ve been recommended “The Time Travelers Wife,” and I’ve requested that one and “The Lovely Bones” from the library. So hear ye, hear ye, all ye book club leaders and members and friends of mine. I will not have another sucky year of reading, oh no! Take your Stardust and your Corrections and save me from the despair of wasted time on boring or lame books. I want something amazing in the world of fiction and nonfiction for my 2005.

Throw out your suggestions in the comments.

Thanks,
Management

PS This is not to knock any 2004 selections. I just happen to have not enjoyed said and unsaid books as much as books I have read in previous years.

  1. Yessireebob. That was my recommendation. Course that was recommended to me by a person far smarter than me, but… well nevermind.

  3. I second Time Traveler’s Wife and may be the actual origin of the recommendation you received for that. And I second Ahab’s Wife.

Also, you can check out the “Books” link from my blog to view everything I read last year and (so far) this year. I’d be happy to tell you which ones stand out. Memoirs of a Geisha is excellent and anything by Isabel Allende would probably be good. I also recently posted my book reviews for 2004 on my site, so the highlights are there if you want more recs.
