Car Shopping

Filed under: General — stargazer @ 11:15 am

So I need to buy a car. Probably within a month.

I went car shopping on Saturday and fell in love with the new Mazda 3, the car that replaced the Mazda Protege. It’s really cool. It looks cool and it is especially fun to drive. Cars aren’t supposed to be fun to drive. What’s the deal? It is an automatic that drives like a stick… you just put it in “manual” mode. There is also volume controls for the cd player on the steering wheel. After driving that car, everything else was boring.

Toyota has a steal of a deal going on right now with the Corolla. I could get one for cheaper than an Echo (which is what I wanted before I found the Mazda 3). I like the Echo because it looks different and it gets great gas mileage, one of the best for a non-hybrid car. Corolla is so boring. But it’s a good car and it’s very affordable… sigh!

What do I do?
I’m going back to Mazda tonight to get more info on the 3. Hopefully I can get a good deal on it. If not, it could be Corolla city for me.

  1. Um, as a note – don’t forget to check http://edmunds.com/ and http://kbb.com/ for more information, such as pricing, current incentives, etc.

I did look at the Mazda 3’s a while back, and they seemed like a pretty decent, cheap vehicle. Course, they’re also REALLY small, and I’d almost have voted for a toyota or Mazda 6 over one.

First, Toyota’s have a repuation as lasting a LOT longer than the competition – look the scion’s for a cheap "Toyota". As for the mazda 6 – it’s from what I’ve seen a little more… well built? It’s the level up from the 3.

  2. Oh, one last note – you REALLY should look at a year or two used. Most cars from the moment you drive them off the lot, lose several thousand dollars in value. As a general rule, new cars are NOT a good deal.
