I am unaccustomed to sitting in traffic. I just got this new job, which I really enjoy, and it takes me not quite 25 minutes to drive there as long as there is no traffic. One thing I like about my job is that I don’t have to arrive early in the morning every day (only some days), and whenever I have an important morning meeting, it seems like the lord of the road is out to get me. There is usually rain that day, and if there is not rain, there is an accident on the highway. I guess that is Murphy’s Law.
Adding to the Murphy’s Law experience in traffic, when I’m in traffic, I always seem to choose the slowest lane. I have also figured out that it is not a good idea to change lanes in the midst of traffic because whatever lane I change to ends up going slower than the one I was in originally!
So screw you, 5:00 traffic. I’m going to happy hour!
“You got a fast car. Is it fast enough so you can fly away?”
Traffic does indeed suck. I dealt with that crap for 4 years and I seem to every year. The trick with navigating lanes is to find the merging lane whent there’s an accident and be one of the merging cars. Being in the merged into lane is certain doom. If it’s just traffic, then don’t move for the Love of God, don’t move. It may be that another lane seems to move faster than yours, but it tends to average out over a longer period such that nobody really moves that much faster. By transferring lanes, you actually hurt yourself because you transfer while it’s going fast and averages catch up to you that it slows down. Since you came in after the main thrust of faster, you end up losing in the long run.
